Johnny Football was a given to be a bust. He was flying out to Vegas to party before the season even started

Take away the partying and Mayfield is still the better prospect than Maziel. I think Sashi Brown had a good plan for rebuilding the team but poor execution. Of course Darnold and Chubb would have been a better first round.
